East China Immigrants Society of Edmonton
The East China Immigrants Society of Edmonton (ECISE) delivers ongoing, community-based active recreation programs that promote physical well-being, social connection, and inclusive participation for Edmonton residents.
Currently, ECISE operates:
•Two Table Tennis (Racquet Sports) programs,
•Two Pickleball (Racquet Sports) programs, and
•One Dance program,
all of which are offered on a weekly, year-round basis.
The Dance program, established in 2012, has been continuously delivered for over 13 years, making it one of ECISE’s longest-running active recreation initiatives. The Table Tennis programs have been in operation for approximately three years, while the Pickleball programs have been successfully offered for two years, reflecting ECISE’s responsiveness to evolving community recreation interests.
In 2024–2025, approximately 101 active members participated in these sport and active recreation programs. All programs are designed to be low-barrier, affordable, and accessible, encouraging participation among adults and seniors, including newcomers and individuals who may face cultural, social, or financial barriers to accessing mainstream sport opportunities.
Through consistent programming, volunteer involvement, and a welcoming environment, ECISE supports lifelong participation in sport and physical activity, contributing to healthier and more connected communities in the City of Edmonton.
