The Alberta Jiu-Jitsu Association (AJJA), founded in 2002, brings together traditional and modern stand-up Jiu-Jitsu (Ju-Jitsu) and other Japanese self-defense arts across Alberta. Our mission is to teach children, teens, and adults practical, effective self-defense while developing confidence, discipline, and physical literacy.
We proudly work with students of all abilities, including children with autism, ADHD, and other behavioral challenges, ensuring our training environment is safe, inclusive, and supportive for everyone. We have volunteered our time to numerous schools within the Edmonton area to bring bully proofing and safety awareness to grades k-9.
In addition to self-defense, the AJJA supports the development of amateur and professional athletes of all ages in Modern and Traditional Ju-Jitsu, Gi Grappling, and competitive formats. The AJJA is the only recognized society in Alberta hosting annual municipal and provincial Japanese Ju-Jitsu tournaments.
We also provide specialized community workshops, including sessions for women in sports, Indigenous groups, and other organizations seeking empowerment, safety education, and accessible martial-arts instruction.
We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to participate in sports and we celebrate bringing that opportunity to our community.
