How it Works...

  • Send us your nomination – think of the person who always shows up and gives their time to make a difference via sport in your community.

  • The Sport Edmonton team reviews the nominations and selects the next Community Champion for the month. The Winners is contacted and given $500 towards supporting their organization.

  • Each winner also receives plaque and a custom Community Champion backpack from Under Armor loaded up with exclusive merchandise.

  • Lastly, we highlight these winners to get their stories out to the public.  We interview each receipient and create a video to truly amplify their hard work.

Corrine Timmer: A Relentless Champion for Community, Inclusion, and Sport

In Alberta’s track and field circles, the name Corrine Timmer is synonymous with commitment, compassion, and quite leadership. For more than 23 years, Corrine had served the sport not as a paid professional, but as a selfless volunteer – with thousands of hours put in to help athletes, clubs, and the community flourish.

Currently the President of both the Edmonton Columbians Track and Field Club and the Edmonton Tack and Field Council, and a Personnel Director with Athletics Alberta, Corrine wears many hats – but always with the game goal: to create an inclusive, accessible, and thriving environment for athletes for all backgrounds.

What began as a personal interest soon transformed into a life’s mission. Initially drawn in by her children’s involvement in athletics, Corrine found her passion for volunteerism sparked by the powerful community spirit of the sport. Over the years, that spark has grown into a full-blown torch she caries for others – mentoring new coaches, advocating for marginalized athletes, and ensuring no one is left behind due to cost, ability of circumstance.

Among her proudest moments? Seeing young athletes return years later – not only still involved in sport but stepping into volunteer and coaching roles themselves. Her message to aspiring volunteers is simple: “Start where you are. Say YES to the little things, That’s where the big things begin”.

Corrine reminds us all that real change doesn’t always come from grand gestures – but from consistent, compassionate action over time. Alberta’s track and field community is stronger, more inclusive, and more connected thanks to her unwavering presence.

Thank you, Corrine, for being a true pillar and inspiration of sport.
