Our bike education and encouragement programs support Edmonton’s goal of 50 per cent of all trips to be made by active and sustainable modes of transportation as we grow to a City of 2 million.

What to expect from the ride along:

  • Better understanding of cycling rules
  • Introduction to cycling signage and Edmonton’s active transportation network
  • Tips to increase in your comfort and confidence when cycling

Meeting Time and Location

  • Date: Wednesday October 16th, 2024
  • Time: 19:00 (7) pm. to 21:00 (9) pm. Please arrive 30 minutes early to sign waivers.
  • Location: The ride will start and end on the bike lanes on South side of OTTO Food and Drink 11405 95 St, Edmonton, AB T5G 1L3 (see google map)

Ride Description: This 7.6 km route travels through busy areas of the city and more than half of your ride will be on calm pathways and protected bike lanes. Some sections are on low traffic streets and painted bike lanes. Enjoy travelling beside community gardens and natural spaces as you experience new components of the Northeast active transportation network that connects with Alberta Avenue, Parkdale, Eastwood, Fort Road, Edmonton Northlands, Westwood, NAIT, Blatchford, Spruce Ave. and corridors to North Edmonton.

Ride Level: Almost no elevation gain or loss. This ride is primarily along paved shared pathways, protected bike lanes and painted bike lanes. There are only a few cautions for travelling across busy intersections.

Ride Safely:

  • When passing others on shared pathways slow down, ring your bell and pass on the left.
  • When riding along roads shared with vehicles, ride in a straight line and far enough out from the curb to avoid obstacles and to help people driving see you.
  • When crossing the intersections, use caution and make sure people driving can see you.

How We’ll Roll

  • The ride has space for up to 25 riders and will be supported by 3 to 4 City of Edmonton Bike Educators.
  • Adults and anyone under 18 years of age who is accompanied by a parent or legal guardian may join. Participants are required to sign a waiver before the ride and/or sign a waiver as a legal guardian of a minor.
  • The ride is suited for people who can cycle but have an interest in increasing their awareness of the active transportation network and confidence in cycling around Edmonton.
  • This ride is not well suited for people who would have difficulty riding 10 km. If your child is still using training wheels, a tricycle or a small bike, they may not be able to keep up with the group. Kids under 12 years old may have a difficult time at this event.
  • If this ride isn’t what you’re looking for, visit edmonton.ca/cycling to learn about other opportunities for a wide range of abilities and interests.
  • Participants are responsible for providing their own transportation if their method of travel breaks down but we’ll be there to support you.
