Edmonton Ultimate Players Association
The Edmonton Ultimate Players Association (EUPA) was founded in 2001 as a not-for-profit organization dedicated to growing and supporting the Ultimate community in Edmonton and the surrounding areas. EUPA’s vision is to foster a welcoming, inclusive, and spirited environment where individuals of all ages and skill levels have the opportunity to learn and play Ultimate. Our mission is to ensure the growth and sustainability of both youth and adult Ultimate by promoting community connection and upholding the sport’s core value—Spirit of the Game.
Ultimate, also known as Ultimate Frisbee, is a fast-paced, non-contact team sport played with a flying disc. What sets Ultimate apart from other sports is its emphasis on sportsmanship and self-officiating, guided by the principle of Spirit of the Game. Players are responsible for making their own calls and resolving disputes on the field, encouraging respect, fairness, and integrity. In play, athletes advance the disc by passing it to teammates; running with the disc is not allowed. A point is scored when the disc is caught in the opposing team’s end zone. If the disc is dropped, intercepted, or thrown out of bounds, possession changes immediately. Games typically last around 90 minutes and are played to 15 points. While Ultimate can be highly competitive, the culture of mutual respect and enjoyment of the game is always a priority.
EUPA offers year-round programming for both youth and adults, utilizing a range of indoor and outdoor facilities across the city. We run a variety of adult leagues to suit all skill levels, as well as youth programs for players under 14 and under 19. In addition to league play, EUPA organizes drop-in sessions and development clinics to provide flexible opportunities for people to try the sport, build skills, and stay active. During the winter season, we operate a women’s-specific league with both competitive and developmental streams. EUPA is also active in schools, where we deliver sessions that introduce students to Ultimate and teach the fundamentals of the game through fun drills and interactive games.
Above all, Ultimate is about community. It offers not only a fun and challenging physical activity but also a meaningful way to connect with others. At EUPA, we believe in the power of sport to bring people together, promote healthy lifestyles, and foster lifelong friendships. We are proud of the vibrant community we’ve built and look forward to continuing to grow the sport of Ultimate in Edmonton.
