Today, we celebrated women’s beach and sitting v Today, we celebrated women’s beach and sitting volleyball teams for their historic achievements at the Paris @olympics and @paralympics games during the @volleyballcanada Youth Nationals in @cityofedmonton. Last summer, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson captured Canada’s first Olympic medal in women’s beach volleyball—and only the country’s second ever in the sport. Following the Olympics, veteran Heidi Peters led the @canadawsittingvb team to a historic Bronze medal, marking Canada’s first-ever Paralympic podium finish in the sport.

These moments mark a powerful legacy in Canadian sports history—thank you for letting us be part of the celebration, and bravo to all the athletes, coaches, and staff who made this success possible! #womeninsport

In this month’s edition of Community Spotlight, In this month’s edition of Community Spotlight, Sport Edmonton is excited to shine a light on @stepup_yeg !

A youth-led organization based in Edmonton dedicated to combating racial injustices locally and globally through education, engagement, and empowerment.

The organization's mission is to address racial injustices by educating the community on topics often underrepresented in traditional educational settings, such as BIPOC history, activism, and anti-racism. They aim to create an inclusive space that brings together diverse perspectives, fostering unity and understanding. Their vision is an anti-racist society where every voice is empowered, and unity dismantles the walls of discrimination.

Amongst the many projects on the go, the organization hosted and developed the launch of the POC para-athlete Digital Museum. This is a great example of taking action to showcase more representation, especially how sports can be used to share the stories and experiences from diverse backgrounds.
