Event Accelerator recipients

On the ice, in the pool, and across the city, Sport Edmonton is proud to announce the inaugural group of events being supported through the Sport Edmonton Event Accelerator Fund, powered by Edmonton Destination Marketing Hotels.

The fund will support a total of 10 events over the 2026-27 Fall/Winter sport season, providing grants of $2,000 to five events, $5,000 to four events, and $10,000 for one new event. In addition to financial support, recipients will receive additional support through the Sport Edmonton Partnership Program.

Below are the $5,000 and $10,000 grant recipients for the 2026-27 fall/winter sport season. Additional details on the $2,000 grant recipients will be shared in advance of each supported event.

Alberta Provincial Disc Golf Championship

Edmonton Disc Golf Association

October 3 - 4, 2026

The culmination of the Alberta Disc Golf Tour, the 2026 Alberta Provincial Disc Golf Championship brings the top players in the province together for two days of competition. More than half of the 144 participants in the event are anticipated to be travelling from outside the Edmonton area, driving visitation October 2 for the event’s practice round, along with both competition days from October 3 - 4.

U13 AAA Oilers Cup

Hockey Edmonton

November 11 - 15, 2026

Entering its third season, the U13 AAA Oilers Cup will bring 12 elite teams from Western Canada to Edmonton for a five-day tournament showcasing high-level youth hockey and player development on home ice. 1,000 spectators are anticipated during the tournament, with attendees encouraged to support the tournament’s charitable goal of raising donations for Edmonton’s Food Bank.

HERitage Female Classic Hockey Festival

Edmonton Female Hockey Alliance

January 28 - 31, 2027

The 2027 HERitage Female Classic is set to build on the success of the inaugural event in 2026, which welcomed 30 teams from U9 through U18 across Western Canada and the North. More than a hockey tournament, the event provides meaningful competition alongside on- and off-ice development, cultural experiences, community gathering, and celebrations of the continued growth of female hockey from January 28 - 31, 2027.

Edmonton Open 2027

Edmonton Keyano Swim Club

February 5 - 7, 2027

Welcoming more than 400 out of town athletes with more than 5,000 spectators taking in this three-day event, the Edmonton Open enters its ninth year as one of Western Canada’s premier swim meets. The event is part of Keyano’s reputation as a premier event host, showcasing Edmonton and continuing to bring high-level meets to the Kinsmen Sport Centre—a proud legacy of the 1978 Commonwealth Games.

Alberta Open Track Racing Series

Multiple Months 2026/27

The Alberta Open Track Cycling races provide cyclists of multiple ability levels with the opportunity to compete in a variety of sanctioned events, including pursuits, scratch races, match sprints, elimination races, and team sprints. Featuring the same disciplines seen at the Olympic and World Championship level, the races offer cyclists from across Western Canada a competitive and inclusive environment to challenge and develop skills. Hosted at Canada’s premier track cycling venue, Coronation Park Sports & Recreation Centre, the series will showcase Edmonton’s newest sport and recreation destination.
